Steve Bernth

Steve Bernth is the Executive Director for the Youth Service Bureau of LaPorte County. The YSB is home to the Teen Court Program, School Buddies Mentoring, and Kids on the Block. Steve attended Valparaiso University and received his B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in 1992. He spent time in the private sector in sales and management, and also had a stint working in regional government, before landing at YSB in 2001 to serve as Director of Development and then Executive Director in 2011. Steve is also a Director for the Matthew Frank Moore Foundation, a member of the LaPorte City Park Foundation, and LaPorte Kiwanis Club. He and his wife, Amy, live in LaPorte with their 3 children.

Kendee Kolp

Kendee began her service to youth and families over 30 years ago and spent 26 years with the YMCA. She began her work as the CEO of Reach For Youth, Inc. in 2015 and is passionate about helping youth who need extra help to succeed or in need of a second chance. She has previous experience in both annual and capital fundraising, operations, developing board and staff teams and programming. Kendee is a graduate of Purdue University and the proud mother of 3 children and 3 border collie rescue dogs!

Megan Leahy

Board President

Megan has lived in the Indy area for almost 12 years. A “retired” law enforcement officer, she has experience in multiple areas and is often referred to as a “Jill of all trades.” 
With a great passion for Human Trafficking Awareness/Education Megan chairs the IYSA Advocacy Committee and is committed to helping her community end this cycle of trauma & abuse. 
Megan lives in Hamilton County with her husband, two kiddos, and their rescue pup. She works for Sun King Brewery and is an avid volunteer. When not working or donating her time, you can find her exploring the city, grocery shopping, socializing, or returning an overdue book to the library.

Keith Mason

Keith Mason is the Director, Advocacy and Engagement at UnitedHealthcare Community & State. In this position, Keith engages and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to design and implement strategies to support the growth initiatives of the organization. This includes identifying those community-based organizations that could serve as strategic on-the-ground, local partners to help inform, guide and support our policy priorities and thought-leadership initiatives. Before joining UnitedHealthcare, Keith held a leadership position at the American Heart Association. He also brings experience working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as within the pharmaceutical industry at Lilly. Keith has a Masters in Secondary Education from Indiana University – Bloomington and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Wabash College. He and his family live in Crawfordsville, Indiana where he enjoys taking Spanish, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and parenting his three sons and foster sibling group of four.

Joellyn Mayer

Founder and VP of Business Development, TruWerks LLC Joellyn Mayer has more than 20 years of diverse business experience, including more than 20 years in communications and technology. She has cultivated a strong background in developing, implementing, and upholding standards and processes for communication services and structured cabling for existing companies. She is driven to optimize business relationships within and outside of organizations. Joellyn is married to Matt, CEO of a boutique engineering design firm. They have a wonderful daughter named Evie and a rescue pit bull named Ellie. Joellyn loves spending time with family and friends, entertaining, traveling, reading and attending cultural events. She is also an avid sports fanatic supporting all her hometown teams and attending every one of her daughter’s volleyball games!

Leah Pezzarossi

Leah A. Pezzarossi was born in Louisville, KY. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisville and immediately began working in social services. While working as a case manager for a Community Mental Health Center in Southern Indiana, she completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Louisville. She began her first job in a residential setting in 2003 as a group home manager. She began her current position as Executive Director of Open Door Youth Services in 2004. She has served on several groups in the local community, such as the Community Impact Cabinet for Metro United Way. She has served on the IARCA Board of Directors and its Executive Committee, and on the Indiana Youth Services Association Board of Directors. She has volunteered with the Center for Women and Families’ Rape Crisis Program, and volunteered as a mentor with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana with two children over a twelve-year period.

Barbara Poore

Barbara Poore is a mother of two and grandmother to Christian and Ella, her pride and joy. She spends as much time as possible with family but also enjoys travel, reading, especially for her Book Club, and her writing group. She serves as President of her neighborhood HOA and volunteered with the Journey Fellowship for 15 years. She was a founding member of their Advisory Board. Barbara holds degrees from the University of Nebraska and Butler University. She founded a children’s newspaper called Peanut Butter Press using 9-13 year old student reporters from around central Indiana. She has worked across the country with schools and youth programs of all sorts helping them develop programs to both strengthen their communities and provide the best lifelong learning opportunities for their young people. She is a strong advocate for youth workers and the young people and families they serve.

Becca Rice


Rebecca Rice joined Ball State University in January 2018 as vice president for Governmental Relations. In this role, she represents the University to government officials and develops legislative and policy strategies that align with the institution's goals and interests. Before coming to Ball State, Becca was director for government relations and compliance in the Office of the Vice President for Government Relations at Indiana University, where she worked for 12 years in various roles. She served as an advocate for public higher education, informing members of the Indiana General Assembly and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education about the complexities of the state's higher education system. Becca has a long-standing commitment to the local community. She grew up in Muncie and graduated from Burris Laboratory School. She earned her bachelor of science from IU Bloomington and her juris doctor from the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis

Cassie Wade

Cassie Wade is the Chief Operating Officer with Bauer Family Resources. She is a certified Child and Youth Care Professional and obtained her Master of Public Administration at Ball State University. Cassie has over 15 years of experience in the human service field, specializing in child welfare, prevention, grant writing, leadership, and working with individuals who have experienced trauma. She is a wife, mother to a spunky 5 year old, and enjoys hiking and camping.

Jan Williams

Jan has been married 42 years in September. She has three grown children, 2 daughters and a son. A daughter in-law and a son in-law. Three grandchildren, 8, 5 and 11 months. She loves to read, spend time with family and travel. Jan is a RN by education but have been at YSB for the past 25 1/2 years.
